Last year Todd and Candor went to the Formula One races at the Circuit of the Americas and had a blast. Since Townes was only 6 months old then we decided to hang back at the house. This year Townes is older and also seems to have a love for cars so we all decided to go as a family.
We bought tickets for the whole weekend and went every day.
On Friday our plan was to arrive and immediately go to the souvenir shop to get the boys their gear. Candor was so excited to be heading out and Townes had no idea what greatness he was about to experience.
Our parking spot was about 3 miles from the souvenir shop, food, and good spectating areas so we loaded the boys up in the stroller and started booking it. It was a very long muddy walk but the boys were living it up. They loved being able to see and hear the cars and look at all the people.
Once we arrived at the shop the line was so long but we powered through to ensure we got the boys their gear before it sold out. Todd learned his lesson the hard way last year. They got hats, shirts, and a couple of tire trinkets.
By the time we finished shopping the boys were hungry so we grabbed some pizza. Midway through eating the rain really started coming down.
The poor little dudes had to finish up eating in their stroller while their legs just got drenched.
The forecast did not look like it was stopping anytime soon so after they finished eating we decided we better head back. Remember that long muddy journey we took a few hours earlier? Well, we had to make it again but this time in the pouring down rain that was making the dirt path even muddier. We eventually made it back and everyone was soaked but no one was crying so all was good!
On day 2 we decided instead of everyone hiking it to where we wanted to spectate that I would drop the boys off then go park and catch a bus to be dropped off close to our spectating area. This worked out much easier.
The boys are hanging out waiting on me to arrive.
Once I met back up with them we decided to go up in the observation tower. The line was a little long and I had my doubts on the boys patience but I'm so glad we did it. They had a blast and it was so fun watching the cars from so high up in the air. AND I didn't panic and freeze from my fear of heights!?!
I wish this picture was a video. They were both looking out the window and pretending to steer their race cars and engine sounds. It was about the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life.
After the tower and watching some races we all decided to take the bus back to the car. The boys both had so much fun riding on it.
By the time Sunday came the weather was awesome and we had perfected the parking / travelling to our spectating spot. It was a flawless day with no road bumps. We hung out, took lots of pictures and watched the final race.
I'm pretty sure this has now become an annual tradition.
